Freddie Mac Foundation Family Home

This is where the journey begins toward self-sufficiency and safe, permanent housing.

The Doorways Freddie Mac Foundation Family Home provides more than a safe, temporary home, we provide comprehensive services to help families get back on their feet.

The Family Home is a $2.4 million, 7,200-square-foot, two-story, therapeutic home re-built in 2007 to replace the damaged and deteriorated, 70-year-old, 2,900-square-foot house that Doorways had operated since 1989. It welcomes 21 individuals—up to seven families—in a family-friendly and program-supportive environment. It will provide a haven for families who are homeless, 24-hours a day, 365-days a year. In our new Family Home, Doorways provides an inspiring and safe haven where futures of promise take root.

Residents of the Family Home will:

  • Set goals toward achieving a self-sufficient future of permanent housing with staff supporting every step.

  • Work intensively with their Financial Educator on budgeting, money management, debt reduction, and other vital financial skills.

  • Address mental health concerns in a confidential, private setting.

  • Work with Children Service staff to ensure that their children are receiving the services they need.

  • Obtain linkages to other needed services in the community.

  • Create a moving expense plan for when they leave the shelter.

  • Cook nutritious meals in a full-size double kitchen.

  • Enhance parenting skills in a supportive environment.

  • Spend quality time with children in a dedicated playroom.

Doorways staff will be working closely with our families to help identify their goals for independent living and support their progress in these goals.
