Spotlight Corporate Ambassadors

Corporate Ambassadors of the Month

January 2012: Morrison Foerster

Doorways is proud to recognize the law firm of Morrison Foerster and the non-profit Morrison & Foerster Foundation as this month’s Spotlight Corporate Ambassador!  Morrison Foerster, which has an office located in McLean, is an international law firm that specializes in areas including litigation, financial services, intellectual property and technology, and transactional work, such as corporate, capital markets and real estate finance representations.  Through their Foundation, the company has been a long-term supporter of Doorways every year since 2004.  This continued support has been invaluable in helping Doorways maintain its core programs for those experiencing family homelessness and/or domestic violence.  The Morrison & Foerster Foundation, which is funded primarily through the firm’s partners and employees, has donated nearly $30 million to mostly local nonprofit organizations since its establishment in 1986.  According to the Foundation, the company and its employees are dedicated to “making a real difference, particularly for our communities’ disadvantaged children and for low-income individuals seeking meaningful access to justice.”

We are honored to have maintained such a great, long-lasting relationship with such a community-minded company, and look forward to working together with Morrison Foerster to achieve that “real difference” for many years to come!

Thank you, Morrison Foerster and the Morrison & Foerster Foundation!

November 2011: Capital One

Doorways is proud to recognize Capital One Bank as this month’s Spotlight Corporate Ambassador!  Capital One, headquartered in neighboring McLean, VA, offers a multitude of financial services and products to its customers, including small businesses and commercial clients, and is one of the ten largest banks in the country.

Having recently acquired one of Doorways’ supporters, Chevy Chase Bank, Capital One has redoubled its efforts to show community support in the areas where its customers live and work.  Capital One recently awarded Doorways a $7,500 grant to be used in support of our programs, including our Financial Independence Track.  We are excited to be working with an organization that believes in thriving communities, and that is committed to supporting children and families. Thank you, Capital One Bank!

August 2011: Dominion Virginia Power

Doorways would like to recognize Dominion Virginia Power as this month’s Spotlight Corporate Ambassador!  Dominion Virginia Power has supported Doorways through its philanthropic branch, the Dominion Foundation, which focuses on giving back to the communities in which Dominion employees live and work.  We are proud of our partnership with Dominion, as one of the Dominion Foundation’s main categories for grants is homeless shelters.

Dominion Virginia Power, which just recently celebrated its 100th Anniversary, is a leading provider and transporter of electricity in our area.  Dominion believes strongly in social responsibility, both with its products and in giving back to the community.  The company encourages employee volunteering by providing group volunteer opportunities and 2-1 matches for those employees who are volunteer Board members or who volunteer over 50 hours in a year.  They also match all employee donations to qualified organizations at a dollar-for-dollar ratio.

We would like to give special recognition to Ms. Deborah Johnson for her interest in and support of Doorways’ programs and services for those in need in our community.  Thank you, Dominion Virginia Power!

July 2011: ARC

Doorways is happy to recognize Airlines Reporting Corporation, known as ARC, as this month’s Spotlight Corporate Ambassador!  ARC is an airline-owned technology solutions company that serves “the travel industry with financial services, data products and services, ticket distribution, original travel solutions, and settlement in the United States, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and American Samoa.”  ARC recently relocated to Clarendon, and was essential in helping Doorways’ with our own relocation to our new offices in Ballston this April.  ARC donated both materials and project management staff (Jones, Lang LaSalle) to help us create our efficient yet spacious accommodations.  Our Administrative, Finance, Development and HomeStart team members have benefited greatly from the numerous workstations, chairs, and tables ARC provided.  Additionally, this donation greatly offset our expenses for the move, which helped keep our donations flowing directly to our programs!

We would like to recognize Mr. Michael Rice, ARC’s Facilities Manager, and Mr. Thomas Casalino, Vice President and CFO, for their help in organizing this donation.  Special thanks also to Offley King, ARC’s Manager of Office Administration for his patience and generosity!  Thank you, ARC!

June 2011: The Verve Partnership!

Doorways would like to thank our Corporate Ambassador, The Verve Partnership a boutique interior architecture firm that designs strategic workplace experiences driven by space, culture and brand.

Verve, a Silver Ambassador, donated their expertise in conducting design-driven conversations with our staff and contractors to strategically design the floorplan, coordinate interior design elements including flooring, walls, color and texture choices, lighting, and other design issues, as well as seamlessly incorporating the use of donated office furniture to maximize our new offices impact on functionality, office culture, and branding.  Verve told us that “if the client is happy with the results, we know we’ve done our job.”  The staff at Doorways all agree, they have done their job exquisitely!

May 2011: The Allstate Foundation!

Doorways would like to recognize The Allstate Foundation as this month’s Spotlight Corporate Ambassador!  The Foundation is the philanthropic branch of Allstate, one the nations’ largest insurance providers, with such products including auto, property, life and commercial insurance.  The Allstate Foundation’s mission, to “bring the relationships, reputation and resources of Allstate to support innovative and lasting solutions that enhance people’s well-being and prosperity,” shines through in their interest to help the women and families of Doorways to reach their goals, both personally and financially.  The Foundation has a dedicated Domestic Violence program, supplying grants to organizations that focus on providing economic empowerment programs and strategies to their clients to help end the cycles of abuse and economic dependency.

Doorways has received support from The Allstate Foundation since 2007, in the form of both much-needed grants for our Financial Independence Track program and through in-kind donations of household products and holiday gifts for our families.  We are currently exploring new ways to partner with the Foundation, including volunteer opportunities for local employees, and look forward to a lasting partnership to help end domestic violence in our community.  Thank you, The Allstate Foundation!!

April 2011: Our Corporate Volunteers

March 2011: Venable LLP and Venable Foundation

Doorways would like to recognize Venable LLP and Venable Foundation as this month’s Spotlight Corporate Ambassador!  Venable, a top national law firm specializing in corporate and business law, has been a strong supporter of Doorways’ programs and services since 2002.  Venable attorneys and staff have an admirable commitment to giving back to their communities, and have often participated in volunteer efforts and provided pro-bono services to community organizations.  According to the Venable website, the company donated over $2 million in 2010 to non-profits and focused their giving efforts on:

• Children’s services and funding for poor families and individuals.
• Homeless shelters and food programs, which receive special attention.
• Community organizations, hospitals, hospices and local chapters of national health organizations.
• The Venable Foundation also supports a wide range of educational, artistic and cultural events and organizations.

Doorways is grateful to Venable Foundation for both its consistent financial support and its increasing of this support from year to year.  Thank you, Venable LLP and the Venable Foundation!

February 2011: Wells Fargo

Doorways would like to recognize Wells Fargo, as February’s Spotlight Corporate Ambassador!  Wells Fargo, a Doorways’ supporter since 2005, has expressed their support on both local and regional levels in recent years.  They have provided much-needed grants for our Financial Independence Track program through the Wells Fargo, as well as smaller multi-purpose grants from individual local branches that are able to see our day-to-day work impact their community.  Wells Fargo is one of the country’s largest financial services companies with a strong foundation in home mortgage lending and servicing, as well as small business lending and commercial real estate brokerage.  As Wells Fargo continues to grow, we wish them success and hope that their commitment to community involvement and improvement will endure.  Thank you, Wells Fargo!

January 2011: Weichert Realtors

Doorways is proud to recognize Weichert Realtors as January’s Spotlight Corporate Ambassador!  Weichert, a leading provider of real estate services in the Arlington area and a natural partner with Doorways based on its commitment to helping people on a path to homeownership, has been a long-time supporter of Doorways through the dedication of local brokers.  In addition to providing in-kind donations of much needed household items, Weichert has also participated numerous times in Doorways’ Holiday Wishes program and has contributed items and gift cards that have made the winter holidays both special and memorable for our clients.  Weichert employees have contributed to Doorways cell phone/PDA recycling program, and have helped our Financial Independence Training program by donating dayplanners and calendars.  In addition, Weichert has provided invaluable name-recognition opportunities for Doorways through advertisements in the Arlington Sun Gazette weekly newpaper.

Our partnership with Weichert has been exceptional over the past few years, and we hope it will grow in 2011 and beyond.  We are especially grateful for the support of individual Weichert Realtors, including Leanne Spencer and Lisa Young, who have spread Doorways’ mission to both their co-workers and clients, and continue to work with us to improve the lives of those in our community who are seeking safe shelter and housing.  Thank you, Weichert Realtors!

December 2010: The Boeing Company

Doorways would like to recognize The Boeing Company and specifically the Boeing Employee Community Fund (ECF) as December’s Spotlight Corporate Ambassador!  While based in Chicago, Boeing, a leading aerospace company and manufacturer of commercial jetliners and military aircraft, has a large presence in the Washington area, including a large office in Rosslyn. With so many employees working and living in the Arlington area, we are grateful to Boeing for maintaining its Employee Community Fund.

As you can tell from the name, this is not a purely corporate-sponsored partnership.  According to the ECF website, “Employee contributions are either directed to an ECF pooled fund or to an eligible nonprofit of the employee’s choice through payroll deductions or one-time gifts.  Boeing pays all administrative costs for the Fund so that 100% of every employee dollar contributed goes to support the community.” Through this program, Boeing employees are empowered to give back to their communities, to the tune of approximately $31 million company-wide every year!

Doorways has been a partner organization to the ECF in the National Capital Area since 2003, and we hope to continue to work with the local Boeing offices to continue that relationship well into the future.  We also encourage local Boeing employees to learn more about Doorways and see how their generous donations make a wonderful impact on our work with those experiencing domestic violence and homelessness right in their community.  Thank you, Boeing Employee Community Fund!!

November 2010: Sagatov Associates, Inc.

Sagatov Associates joined the Corporate Ambassadors program last year as a sponsor in the first annual Open Doors Home Tour, and have committed to participating in this year’s event on December 11, 2010 by providing one of the tour’s beautifully designed houses.  Sagatov Associates Inc., a premier Northern Virginia design-build firm based in Falls Church, VA, focuses on custom designs and high quality workmanship in their new structures and rebuilds.  Sagatov has won numerous awards, including the Washington Spaces 2008 Best of Kitchen Spaces award and the 2008 Capital COTY Grand Award for Residential Interior $250,000 and Under.  Most recently, Sagatov was recognized this summer by the Arlington County Government’s Green Home Choice program for certifying five green homes.

Doorways Corporate Ambassadors program is grateful to Sagatov Associates for participating in and contributing to our newest fundraising event that supports families in Arlington experiencing domestic violence and homelessness.  We are especially glad to be partnering with a design-build company that holds the same environmentally-friendly ideals that Doorways aspired to in the rebuild of our Freddie Mac Foundation Family Home.  We look forward to seeing Sagatov’s entry in this year’s tour, and to a long partnership to come!  Thank you, Sagatov Associates!!

October 2010: ExxonMobil

Doorways would like to recognize its long-standing partner ExxonMobil as October’s Spotlight Corporate Ambassador!  Every year, ExxonMobil holds its Employees’ Favorite Charities Campaign, which allows ExxonMobil employees in the area to learn about a wide array of local charities.  ExxonMobil encourages its employees to form a relationship with at least one local charity, whether it be by making a financial donation, volunteering, or just spreading the word of a charity’s mission.  Over the years, Doorways has continued to benefit from attending the Campaign’s one-day fair.  We are both grateful for the opportunity to participate, and heartened to see a company invest so much into supporting and facilitating employees giving back to the community.

In addition to an innovative employee involvement program, ExxonMobil also provides matching grants for employees or qualifying family members of employees for volunteering.  Though we had to say goodbye to her last year, Doorway’s volunteer Martha Dexter (and wife of ExxonMobil employee Patrick Dexter) provided many dedicated hours helping out at our administrative office, and her time was matched twice a year by $500 grants from ExxonMobil.

Doorways Corporate Ambassadors program is always looking for new and diversified ways for companies and their employees to get involved and help our clients and our mission.  We are honored to partner with a company like ExxonMobil, that is a shining example of exceptional corporate philanthropy.  Thank you, ExxonMobil!!

September 2010: The Liberty Tavern Group

Doorways is honored to recognize Silver Ambassador The Liberty Tavern Group as this month’s Spotlight Corporate Ambassador!  Since they opened the doors to their first restaurant in Arlington, The Liberty Tavern, The Liberty Tavern Group has been an outstanding supporter of Doorways’ programs and staff.  The Group, and more specifically co-owners Stephen and Mark Fedorchak, have contributed to Doorways in a multitude of ways over the past three years, including but not limited to:

  • Holding a fundraiser for Doorways on The Liberty Tavern’s opening night
  • Hosting numerous Doorways events, including our Corporate Ambassadors Networking Breakfast this April, and providing food and drinks
  • Catering Doorways’ Donor Thank You Event last November for over 50 people
  • Providing meals to Doorways’ client families during an emergency evacuation
  • Donating coveted meals and wine pairings for Doorways Benefit Auction
  • Designing and building shelving units for our Family Home storage area and pantry
  • Catering numerous Board Meetings

And if that weren’t enough, The Liberty Tavern Group is currently working on supporting Doorways by:

  • Creating a special “Doorways Blend” coffee to sell at Northside Social, with part of the proceeds donated to Doorways
  • Teaching basic cooking classes to Doorways Family Home clients
  • Holding a spring benefit fundraiser to raise community awareness and support for Doorways

We are truly touched by the outpouring of support we have received from The Liberty Tavern Group’s management and employees, and would like to thank those individuals who have donated their time to help with Doorways’ events, both in the past and on the horizon.  Doorways would especially like to recognize The Liberty Tavern Group owner and Doorways’ Board Member Stephen Fedorchak for spending countless hours to help Doorways achieve its mission of ending homelessness and domestic violence in our community.  Stephen has quickly become one of our most active Board Members, and has introduced us to many businesses and new supporters in the Arlington community.  We are thrilled for his company’s continued success, and look forward to many more delicious meals at The Liberty Tavern, Northside Social and Lyon Hall!

The Liberty Tavern Group has been and continues to be an exemplary corporate partner to Doorways, and we are truly grateful.  Thank you, The Liberty Tavern Group!

August 2010: The Tauri Group

Doorways is proud to recognize The Tauri Group as August’s Spotlight Corporate Ambassador!  Since 2005, The Tauri Group, an innovative government consulting agency based in Alexandria, VA, has directly supported Doorways’ efforts to brighten the futures of the women and families who enter Doorways’ programs and services every year.  Few corporations have demonstrated such continued dedication and we are grateful that this partnership has endured from its humble beginnings more than four years ago.

In 2005, The Tauri Group came to Doorways through the popular musical fundraiser, Santa Jam.  All told, The Tauri Group has contributed almost $10,000 to Doorways, through both Santa Jam and direct contributions.  This compassionate company not only supports local non-profits financially: it also provides its employees eight paid hours a year to devote to charity.  We look forward to enhancing our relationship with The Tauri Group and engaging its employees in volunteer efforts in the years to come.  Thank you, The Tauri Group!
