For 25 years, Doorways for Women and Families (formerly TACTS) has brought hope to women and families experiencing homelessness or domestic violence by providing a life-saving continuum of care, hope and safety. Doorways seeks an intern to play a key role on our Development Department Team. This position requires a thoughtful, compassionate individual with abilities to communicate effectively (written and verbal), take initiative, multi-task, manage time wisely, meet deadlines, conduct research, think outside of the box, and be a team player. The intern will report to the Community Resources Manager.
In return, Doorways will provide a meaningful, learning experience in which the intern will:
- Gain valuable work experience in a friendly and fun atmosphere
- Be exposed to the challenges that face domestic violence survivors and homeless families
- Hone and demonstrate leadership abilities by leading specific initiatives
- Learn how to cultivate and manage volunteers and in-kind donors in order to advance the organizational mission
- Develop a strong understanding of nonprofit administration
- Understand the importance, needs, and challenges in the nonprofit sector
Responsibilities:
- Plan and coordinate Doorways efforts for Domestic Violence Awareness Month (October)
- Help create Doorways Speaker’s Bureau to increase community awareness of domestic violence
- Assist with updating content for the Doorways website
- Assist in planning monthly volunteer orientations
- Assist in planning Volunteer Appreciation activities
- Assist in managing the volunteer database and volunteer files
- Assist in coordinating in-kind efforts for the holiday season
- Assist in cultivating relationships with volunteers and in-kind donors
- Other duties as assigned by the Community Resources Manager
Qualifications: Applicants must have an interest in communications/public relations, event planning, volunteer management and/or social services in the nonprofit sector, as well as a basic understanding of OR interest in homelessness and/or domestic violence issues. Experience or course work in marketing, advertising, communications, or special events is a plus, but not required. Basic understanding of Microsoft Office programs is necessary.
Eligibility : College students and with the above experience are invited to apply
Length of commitment: Minimum length of commitment is one semester but two semesters is preferred
Weekly hours: Minimum of 8 hours each week based on a Monday-Friday 9:00 – 5:00 schedule (flexible) with the possibility of some nights and weekend hours as needed. This could also include research time offsite.
