HAPPY VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION MONTH!
Volunteers at Doorways make our efforts possible. Because of the many volunteers who staff Doorways homes, tutor clients, prepare meals, facilitate collection drives, support families during the holidays and beyond, assist with grocery shopping, organize our storage rooms, answer our administrative office phone, and assist with our amazing special events, we are able to provide shelter and holistic programs to the many women and families experiencing domestic violence and homelessness in Arlington and Northern Virginia.
Last year, Doorways provided services to more than 1200 individuals; many of whom were children. This would not be possible without the support from individuals and groups in our community.
For this month, and the many months of service given we want to say THANK YOU to all of our volunteers!
2008 Volunteer Awards
CONGRATULATIONS to SUSAN SAVAGE: Doorways Volunteer and Recipient of the 2008 Volunteer Fairfax Benchmark Award. If you volunteer with Susan at the Family Home or the Safehouse please say “hi” and congratulate her on this great award! Susan was nominated for this honor because she contributed 250+hours of volunteer service in 2007. Susan provides one-on-one ESL tutoring to Family Home, Safehouse, and HomeStart clients. In addition, she often provides interpretation for us when we need assistance communicating with clients. Thank you Susan for all of the wonderful service you provide and for the touching the lives of so many clients. For more information on this award click here!
Volunteers of the Month 2008
April Volunteers of the Month: Mothers of North Arlington (MONA)
Our volunteers of the month for this April are Mothers of North Arlington (MONA). These women are wonderful at organizing and collecting much needed items for Doorways, such as diapers, wipes, and other infant and toddler needs. Also, the group donated many toys, gift cards, and other presents during our Holiday Wishes program this past holiday season. MONA is always very generous and giving and we appreciate every effort that our contact, Sharalyn Hoffman, and all the rest of these wonderful mothers do for us!

March Volunteers of the Month: Court Advocate Volunteers
The Doorways Domestic Violence Program volunteer team has rallied again! We are extremely grateful for all of the dedication the Court Advocacy Program volunteers have shown since mid-January when the fulltime position became vacant. Many thanks to Janet who communicated the court hearings! Additional thanks to Stefanie and Kimberley who made sure that the schedule made sense! Of course, bringing in Ashley, our fabulous Court Advocacy intern was so helpful too! Everyone came in for additional hours while juggling busy schedules and we are very appreciative of their extra support during this time! Doorways would not be the client-centered organization that it is without the amazing gifts that all of the volunteers bring to the team.

February Volunteers of the Month: Friday Administrative Volunteers
Thank you to our wonderful day time administrative volunteers! You all step up each Friday to staff the phones and handle the front desk so our Administrative Assistant can have a day off! The work you all do is instrumental in allowing the organization to operate smoothly in her absence!!

Welcome new Domestic Violence Program, Children’s Program and Family Home Volunteers!
Doorways would like to congratulate the recent graduates of Doorways Training Program. In the past 4 months Doorways has hosted two 30-hour trainings for volunteers who are now working as mentors to Doorways HomeStart Youth Clients, Safehouse Volunteers, Children’s Program and Court Advocate Volunteers.
