Help Doorways Back To School Drive this Summer!
Each year, Doorways outfits 50+ children with the supplies they need to have a successful start back to school. This summer, Doorways will be conducting collection drives throughout the community to obtain these items such as gift cards for new clothing and school supplies, backpacks, lunchboxes, generic school supplies, etc. If you are interested in participating as and individual or group, please email volunteers@doorwaysVA.org
Spring 2008
Verizon (Courthouse Corporate Offices): Hosted a Shower for Shelters collection drive in April for Doorways as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Thank you Verizon for continuing to support Doorways and the homeless families in your community.
Floris United Methodist Church Spring Baskets: A heartfelt thank you to Floris UMC for providing the 50 festive spring baskets for all of the children at Doorways! The treats, toys, and gifts were all cheerfully packaged in baskets and delivered to each child at our Dinner with Friends this March. This is something our clients look forward to each year.
Dinner with Friends: Thank you to all of the wonderful volunteer groups who have provided the meals for our monthly Dinner with Friends program. These dinners are a great way for all of Doorways families to share their experiences, re-connect with past friends and enjoy each other’s company with a delicious meal and program. A big thanks to the following groups who have assisted this year:
January – Alcova Heights Neighborhood
February – Zonta Club
March – Congregation Etz Hayim
April – National Automobile Dealers Association
And thank you to Elise Colella and the volunteers from IBM who come out every month to provide child care at Dinner with Friends!

Holiday Meals: Thank you to the following individuals and groups who coordinated and prepared the Holiday Meals and Parties for Doorways families.
Temple Rodef Shalom, as in previous years, supplied the December 25th meal to our two homes, the Freddie Mac Foundation Family Home and the Safehouse.
Doorways Junior League Committee provided the holiday party and meal to our HomeStart Family. Not only was this one of our most successful HomeStart parties to date, it was also festive and welcoming with holiday crafts, decorations and a delicious holiday meal.
St. Charles Borromeo Just Faith Group provided the holiday festivities at the Family Home. This group made gingerbread houses with the children and families at the Home and then shared a Holiday Meal that they provided.
Zonta Club provided the holiday meal and activity at the Safehouse. Zonta provided a Holiday Brunch and assisted clients in crafting homemade holiday ornaments.
St. Mary’s Church provided all of Doorways HomeStart families with Thanksgiving Day Baskets consisting of all items for side dishes and gift cards for turkeys.
Thank you to Chris DeRosa who brought desserts to the Safehouse and K.C. Bell who brought a turkey on Thanksgiving Day.
These are just a few examples of the incredible time, energy and talent Doorways' volunteers provide to women and families in need so that Doorways can fulfill its community mission.
