Community Education
Community Education for Individuals and Groups
Community Education is a vital component of Doorways’ mission, fulfilling two important functions: to increase awareness about Doorways’ and the services we provide as well as to foster a community that recognizes the signs of unhealthy relationships, domestic and dating violence, and understands the impacts on adults, children and the community. We offer a variety of trainings and outreach tools to the community. Below are the trainings that Doorways’ can provide to your community regardless of age or profession.
Doorways Information and Services (60-90 minutes): Doorways staff can provide an informational session on the services that Doorways provides including an overview of all residential, housing and client centered programs.
Domestic Violence 101 (60-120 minute): Doorways staff can provide education for any community about the dynamics and impacts of domestic violence including an overview of warning signs, the cycle of violence and the power and control wheel. This presentation also highlights how people can become active bystanders themselves and spot the warning signs of violence. For a snapshot of the information, click here.
Dating Abuse and Healthy Relationships for Teens, Youth, and College Students (60-120 minute): Doorways staff can provide education for teens, youth and young adults about what a healthy relationship is and how they can recognize the warning signs of dating abuse in addition to how to help a friend and where to go to for help. For a snapshot of the information, for teens click here and for college students here.
Homelessness 101 (60-120 minute): Doorways staff can provide education for any community about the dynamics and impacts of family homelessness including an overview of the definition of homelessness and statistics. This presentation also includes ways that the community can assist Doorways efforts in meeting the needs of homeless families. For a snapshot of the information, click here.
Domestic Violence in the Workplace (60-120 minutes): Doorways staff can educate your employees on how domestic violence impacts the workplace. Our presentation teaches the basics of workplace safety with a training on how to recognize the warning signs of domestic violence, effectively and safely respond, and how to refer to local organizations for those who need help.
Fees for programs and trainings are based on the presentation requested, the amount of time allotted and the topic. Click here for the fee schedule or to request training.
By educating the community and ourselves about these important issues, we can create a community that does not tolerate domestic violence.
