HomeStart Supportive Housing Program
Doorways’ HomeStart Supportive Housing Program offers a new beginning to women and families who are leaving Doorways' Family Shelter or Safehouse and are ready to live independently. HomeStart offers residential stability (through rental subsidies) and intensive support in goal planning focused on educational, employment and financial skills building to prevent the recurrence of homelessness and domestic violence among women and families. For up to two years, families receive weekly home visits focused on both the parent and children. This support helps ensure women escape the downward cycle of homelessness and violence.
Recent HomeStart accomplishments:
- 100% of HomeStart participants reported the program stabilized and strengthened their family, improved relationships with their children, and taught them how to locate and use community resources.
- Since 1998, 67% of HomeStart families successfully achieved self-sufficiency in housing and strengthened their parenting and life skills.
