Community Partners
The Family Home came to life when the Freddie Mac Foundation and Arlington County committed funding of more than $1 million toward the $2.4 million project. HomeAid of Northern Virginia, the charitable arm of the Northern Virginia Homebuilders Association, secured builder-captain NVHomes, a subsidiary of NVR, Inc., to oversee and manage the project from demolition of the old house to painting the last stroke of the final trim on the new home. Through this partnership, more than one-third of construction costs, valued at $400,000, was donated by NVHomes and their vendors, including project management, windows, floors, kitchen cabinets, electrical wiring and bricks.
The project’s lead architect, Wayne Neale of Neale Architects, contributed countless hours to the project from blueprints to opening day. Michael Roberson of Michael Roberson Design lent her design expertise to create the warm and inviting interior living spaces. Both also solicited substantial contributions of wall coverings, comforters, furniture, bricks, and other items from a multitude of generous vendors to make this house an inspiring home.
This incredible outpouring of in-kind support, as well as lead gifts and campaign pledges from individuals, foundations, businesses, faith communities and civic groups coalesced in what is now a warm, inviting home that supports our services and gives residents a safe and dignified place to rebuild their lives.
