Level 1 Volunteer Toolkit

Volunteers are key members of the Doorways team out in the community, at our administrative offices, and in our shelters. Volunteers can and do train to work in virtually all Doorways programs! Learn more about volunteering at all levels.

Level 1 volunteer opportunities do not require any orientation or training and can be done by any individual or group on a one-time or ongoing basis.

Share Resources

By sharing Doorways’ resources, you can help your members access any help they may need, and empower them with information to share with their friends, family, colleagues and neighbors. Resources on this site include the following:

Fundraiser

Host your own fundraising event or online fundraiser to support Doorways’ critical work.

  • Start an online fundraiser
  • Host a fundraising event, such as a happy hour with a portion of proceeds benefiting Doorways, or party at your house where you collect donations from friends
  • Help kids in your life conduct a fundraiser, such as a bake sale, a lemonade stand and more, at school, in a group like Scouts, or in your neighborhood

To discuss a fundraiser idea, get Doorways’ logo and more, please contact Linley Beckbridge, Director of Communications and Outreach, at (703) 504-9283 or LBeckbridge@DoorwaysVA.org.

Donation Drive Coordinator

Collect needed items such as household and personal care items, school supplies, etc.

For additional details, please contact Anna MacNiven, Development Associate at (703) 504-9291 or AMacNiven@DoorwaysVA.org.

Caring Community

The Caring Community is a group of community members who help fulfill Doorways’ urgent needs for our clients and shelters, mainly personal care and household items. As a member of the Caring Community, we will email you to notify you of our needs as they arise. We do not expect every member to be able to donate every time—that’s the power of community. Together, we can make it happen. See how it works and sign up now.

Seasonal Opportunities

Seasonal Donation Drive Coordinator

Collect special items during the back-to-school and holiday seasons.  Consider creating an “angel tree” or a similar central way to coordinate gifts among a large group or community!
