Community Engagement
Prevention and Outreach Program
Doorways’ programming is designed to shift attitudes, behaviors, and social norms to change the conditions that directly contribute to and perpetuate violence. Educational offerings include workshops, community activities like trivia and film viewings, and campaigns to promote healthy relationships and non-violent communication. Learn more.
Volunteer and Training Program
Volunteers are an essential part of the Doorways team! Volunteers do everything from frontline service to fundraising. Without our volunteers, Doorways couldn’t deliver the life-changing services and lasting results we do. Learn about volunteer opportunities and how to get started.
Advocacy and Community Partnerships
Doorways is a strong advocate for the rights and needs of survivors and their families. We are proud to be part of a larger community that is working together to respond to and address these traumas and their root causes. We partner with local and regional nonprofits, advocacy agencies, faith-based organizations, civic groups, government agencies, and more.
Doorways’ staff serve or have served as advocates on local, regional, and statewide committees and coalitions, including the following:
- Arlington County’s Project PEACE
- Arlington County’s Homeless Services Continuum of Care and Action Plan for Ending Homelessness
- Arlington’s Safety Net
- Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance
- Arlington Landlord Partnership
- Virginia Underserved Populations Learning Collaborative
- Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Professional Standards Committee (PSC)
